Dorothy MacLure (nee. MacKenzie) (1912-2008) was born in South Granville, PEI. MacKenzie began her teaching career which lasted for 30 years in 1929 in the one-room school house of her home community. In 1936, she moved to the Brackley Point school where she boarded in the community. Dorothy remembers the pay being so poor for teachers, $1.25/day, that she was forced to supplement her income with potato picking where she made $2/day. In 1939, Dorothy married Walter MacLure, a farmer who operated a saw mill.
A woman of many talents, MacLure was a highly skilled quilter, embroiderer and rug hooker for which she received provincial, national and international recognition. MacLure published this book of poetry as well as one on the community of South Granville, PEI.
