DescriptionBrown velvet two-piece dress. The bodice is closed by full row of buttons which are decorated with floral details. The top also has beaded flower details on each side and around the sleeves and bottom of the bodice. The sleeves have lace detail on the wrists. The bottom of the bodice is gathered to for an asymmetrical bustle, embellished with beading and fringe along the edge. The skirt is a bell-style skirt that is flared at the bottom with velvet details. The skirt has a cotton yoke and is velvet from the hips down. There is a button closure on the back and a velvet ruffle around the bottom.Narrative
This dress was made by Margaret Poole (nee Clow) in Georgetown, PEI. Margaret wore this dress for her wedding in 1881 to Leslie Poole, gentleman farmer. The dress remained in the family until in 1935 it came to the donor who was Margaret and Leslie's grand-nephew.
