DescriptionCylindrical heavy metal artillery shell. Top portion is blown off and the sides are split, curled and fragmented. There is a copper collar near the closed end that is ribbed.Narrative
It was a very common for soldiers to collect fragments of shells and other items from the battlefield. Some pieces were turned into examples of Trench Art, household items such as lamps or just kept as a souvenir when the soldiers returned home.
