Hickey and Nicholson was founded in 1832 and undergoing different ownerships and names, Hickey and Nicholson was one of the leading tobacco companies on PEI. They would often employ many generations of the same families. The tobacco was consumed by many PEI residents, especially during winter months when the Island was isolated.
