DescriptionA rectangular sampler on brown linen(?) inside a black frame with gold highlights. Images and text have been stitched in various colours of thread. The text reads: "Now in the heat of youthful blood Remember your Creator God Behold the months come hastning on When you shall say My joys are gone Hannah Priscilla Leard aged 11, 1847". The top of the sampler has a multicolour, triangular pattern in a straight line. Below are duplicated capitalized letters of the alphabet stitched side-by-side in alternating colours. Beneath is a row of lower case letters which end with numbers 1-9 and a white/green heart and blue/yellow diamond. A poem is stitched in red thread at the center with a white bird stitched to the right side. Underneath the poem is a row of green vine with red buds. At the bottom is the artist's name, age, and date stitched in pink. On the reverse of the frame is written a family tree with relevant dates relating to genealogy. In the center is a black label with gold highlights that shows the frame's manufacturer.

The back paper includes a family tree for Mrs. James B Leard (Hannah's mother) who died in 1885. There is also a handwritten note recording how the sampler came into the possession of the donor and reads: "Given to me by Mother after Nanna Brace died in 1948. or This piece was "worked" by Hannah Pricilla Leard (Nanna's mother) at the age of 11 in 1847. Uncle George Brace has the second "old wall piece of linen" worked by Hannah Priscilla Leard."
