Harry Baglole and David Weale were young historians in 1973 when the Island celebrated a century of being Canada's seventh province. Together, with some like-minded people, they formed Brothers and Sisters of Cornelius Howatt. The group named after one half of the duo of Island politicians who voted against PEI joining Confederation in 1873.
In 1973, with Centennial mania sweeping the province, the Brothers and Sisters took the opportunity of to highlight stories of the Island's pre-Confederation self-reliance but also pointed to some contemporary challenges faced by PEI such as land ownership and use - many of them still relevant in 2023.
