DescriptionLarge hardwood upright cupboard. The cupboard consists of two pieces. The top portion (A) is a large rectangular cupboard with two vertical veneered doors with brass closures and hinges and keyholes. Inside the cupboard there are four shallow drawers. The drawers slide forward when the doors are fully open. There is a brass decorative strip applied to the center edge of the doors. The upper portion also has handles on the sides and a four panel back. The bottom portion (B) has four rectangular drawers with brass pulls. The bottom portion has four feet with a wheel on each foot.
Narrative
The linen press was presented to Government House by the board members of Hillcrest Housing Corporation, Summerside. The ceremony marked the 25th anniversary of the Hillcrest Housing Development and the 150th anniversary of Government House. It belonged originally to the Stewarts of Strathgartney and remained at the homestead unti 1984.
