Narrative
This painting of The Brig Jane was commissioned by the shipmaster Simon Dodd. The Brig was owned by Samuel Cunard and built in 1829 on the Miramichi River in New Brunswick by John Butement.

The title of the painting most likely refers to a sheltered area where ships would enter the English Channel.
