This sign was used by Off Stage Theatre, a small independent theatre company based in Charlottetown from 1990 to 1997. Formed by David Moses in 1990, the theatre company staged their shows from the "old Seaman's bottling plant" on King Street. Off Stage was dedicated to producing original theatre and became best known for their production of "Annekenstein" which debuted in 1991.
The sign was created by local artist, Russell Stewart (1929-2019). Russell began his career creating graphics for CFCY-TV in the 1950s. After working in Ontario and Nova Scotia, Russell returned to the Island and began teaching at Holland College with the commercial design program in 1970. This program ran until 1992.
