The 2023 Canada Games Committee held an Island wide contest in the spring of 2021 among school age children to find a mascot for the 2023 Canada Games. 1,200 entries were received from 45 different schools, and in November 2021 it was announced that Myla Doucette's mascot "Wowkwis" (Mi'kmaq for "red-fox") was the winner and Doucette was able to meet the mascot in real-life.
