DescriptionA rectangular metal license plate. The plate has rounded edges with a raised lip around outer edge. The front background is primarily navy blue enamel with embossed raised numbers and letters. The white text which reads "Seat Belts Save 27893 Prince Edward Island" is enclosed by a white border. A blue sticker is adhered to the right side in the middle of the plate and reads, "Prince Edward Island, 1980, 33109". On the reverse, the number "76" can be seen in the location which is covered by the sticker. There are two curved rectangular holes along the top and bottom. The reverse of plate is green enamelled.Narrative
License plates promoting the value of seat belts were first issued on PEI in 1976 but it wouldn't be until 1987 that legislation mandated the use of seat belts for Islanders. This plate was issued the same year that Ontario took the lead and became the first area to mandate seat belt use.
