DescriptionBlack naval cocked hat with gold trim. Also known as a Bicorne. The hat has a domed crown that slopes and tapers to the front and rear extensions. The hat is of a two part construction with a flat topped helmet section that is set in diamond shaped brim which is folded up at the sides to extend above the helmet crown, and form the tapered extensions. The top and ends are open. The hat is covered with brushed silk and edged with silk brocade. Attached at either end is a gold braided cord knob from which protrudes from four gold spiraled wire cylinders. The cylinders are tacked at opposite end. On the right side, at the center of the crown is two gold wire spirals that are twisted and extending to the bottom of the hat and are secured with a gold colored button bearing the naval insignia. There is another spiral that encloses the twist and button. The hat has a leather sweat band that is dyed white and is lined with white pleated satin.
