Narrative
For many years, if a woman wanted to pursue a career, nursing was one of the few options open to her –most other professions were reserved almost exclusively for men. These patches, dating from the mid 20th century, are examples of what all nurses wore on the collar of their nurses cape as part of their uniform. One is the initials of the nurse, seen here "AJP" for Audrey Jean Profitt, and the other is the school of nursing that they are training or working, in this case "Prince Edward Island Hospital".
