DescriptionA brown leather jacket with a round collar and embroidery on either side of the front as well as across the shoulders at the back. One twisted tassel is present on the left side of the collar. Two circular plastic buttons, one white and one brown, are present at the top left. A 15x15 cm pocket is present at the front bottom-left. The sleeves have folded cuffs which come to a point and feature embroidered pink four petaled flowers with yellow centers. The embroidery on the front of the jacket is in the shape of three-lobed flowers in pink, red, orange and purple. On the back are embroidered red and pink circles. Narrative
This jacket was found hanging in a barn in Rocky Point, PEI. The property had been purchased from Angus Junior MacEachern who informed the donor that the jacket had been there since 1902 when his grandfather bought the property from James MacMillan.
James MacMillan was known to grow many acres of potatoes (~40) and often hired extra help at harvesting time. MacEachern speculated that the jacket may have been left at the property accidentally by a hired help or that it was a gift to MacMillan.
Made from a heavy leather, this jacket likely had extensive beading at some point. The embroidery may have been dislodged due to the jacket having been well-worn in its history.
