DescriptionA large quilt made of two interlined layers of blue cotton with 38 small unique squares across the top. A large rectangular panel is present at the center with embroidery and applique for “1965-1985 20 Years Of Volunteer Service” with the logo for the PEI Community School at the center. The squares vary in size slightly, each with a different pattern representing the communities/schools in which they were made including Georgetown, Miscouche, St. Margatet’s, Glen Stewart, Souris, St. Peter’s, Parkdale, Three Oaks, Fortune, Murray Harbour, M. E. Callaghan, Dundas, Belfast, Eastern Kings, Carleton Siding, Cardigan, Wedgewood Manor, Evangeline, Vernon River, Kinkora, Cornwall, Montague, Hernewood, Hunter River, Morell, Charlottetown, Kensington, Tyne Valley – Ellerslie, Beach Point, Englewood, Bluefield, Stella Maris, Summerside, O’Leary, St. Eleanors, Stone Park, Mount Stewart, Alberton, Three Oaks, and Fortune. In between the blocks are parallel rows of waved stitching. The center rectangle features scalloped embroidery around the outer edge. Images, either appliqued or embroidered, on the squares include the shape of PEI, a hammer, boats, mice, human figures, flowers, strawberries, lobster, potatoes, clover, six point star, landscape, dog, torch, trees, a horse and harness racer, etc. A sleeve is present on the top edge of the reverse for mounting on a wall.
