Lindee Climo is an American artist who relocated to Canada in the 1970s. Following a short period in New Brunswick, Climo moved to Prince Edward Island in 1974 to caretake a farm.
During the long winter nights, Climo began to create portraits of her animals and images of local Island farming, including her neighbour Chester and his draft horses. Through "Chester's Barn, Climo" uses her story complemented by her illustrations to inform the readers about farm life and the lives of the farm animals. While the animals are anthropomorphized with names and personalities, the realities of farm life remain present. Chester's Barn won the Amelia France Howard-Gibbon Award in 1983 for the best illustrated children's book.
