DescriptionA French language, soft covered children’s book titled “Cheval des Iles” by Peter Cumming. The front cover has a central black and white illustration, framed by a thick navy blue outer border, with a red interior border outlined in black. Illustration on the front cover shows two children, one smaller with an armful of sticks or grass, and one taller holding the lead of a horse drawing a load of possibly hay behind it. A paper label on the bottom right of the inside cover page has black lettering “Cumming, Peter, 1951- / Cheval des Iles / CHA”. The back cover has a summary of the book with two labels beneath an adhesive tape in the top right corner. Below is a black and white photo of two men (the author and illustrator) standing on either side of an illustrated horse. Below are three columns with descriptions of the author, main character, and illustrator. At the bottom center of the back cover the silhouette of a bucking horse with “Ragweed Press” underneath. A label on the back cover, top right corner says “PEI Provincial Library Service” above a barcode and series of numbers. The book contains 36 pages with an assortment of black and white illustrations.
Narrative
Written by Peter Cumming, Cheval des Iles was translated by Henri-Dominique Paratee and illustrated by P. John Burden. The story is based on a true story of a horse named Farmer who lived on the Magdalen Islands in the 1920s.
