DescriptionA paperback book with brown cover and black and white landscape illustration at the center. The title, “Prince Edward Island Sketchbook” is present in yellow font at the top center, and author’s name, “Henry Purdy”, in printed in black at the top right underneath the title. The spine features the author’s name, title, and publisher’s name, “Four East Publications”. The back cover has a black and white photo of the author at the center left. At the center right is a paragraph regarding the author. The interior features 102 pages with black and white drawings. Inside the front cover is a red inscription for “Mrs. Simmons The time spent at the Silver Fox was better then special… Your Inn felt like home. Thank you Wally & Lee May 1982”
Narrative
Henry Purdy (b. 1937) originally from Wolfville, NS, graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art in 1958. He moved to PEI that same year to begin working for the CFCY TV Graphic Arts Department. In 1969, he began the Graphic Design program at Holland College and later the School of Visual Arts in 1977. He has been a practicing artist for over 65 years and was awarded an Order of Canada in 2001 for his nearly continuous role in arts education and accessibility on PEI.
