DescriptionA large rectangular activity book with cut out templates for a paper Green Gables house from the Anne of Green Gables book series by LM Montgomery. Front cover has a banner at the top center with “My Green Gables” in large red font. To the left is an image of a straw hat with two braids hanging below. Below the banner are two parallel lines of Japanese characters in red. The background has a floral design with leafed branches, orange & purple flowers, and butterflies. At the center of the front cover is a large horizontal oval with a colour photograph of a white house with green trim positioned on a green lawn. Red stone steps lead towards the house with a bare stretch of garden to the right. The photo is surrounded by an illustrated frame. Below the frame are small Japanese characters in red. The back cover has the same floral pattern as the front. In the top right corner is a rectangle with Japanese characters and “ISBN 4-7841-0492-5 C0772 P2200E”.
.B-.L are interior pages which have come loose. Templates for the house are all in colour. Directions are on the last two pages in both English and Japanese.
Narrative
The donor received this book as a gift of thanks from a Japanese student who borrowed a pair of ice skates. Despite moving many times, across PEI as well as Canada, the book was never taken apart and used.?
Lucy Maud Montgomery?s literary works have long captured the hearts and minds of readers worldwide. This book is an example of this global interest, published in Japan for a Japanese audience. The book contains miniature versions of the interior and exterior of ?Green Gables? the fictional home of Anne Shirley.? It is a scaled version of the National Historic Site of Canada located in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island.
