DescriptionHorizontally mounted oval fire screen. At the top and bottom of the fire screen there are carved scroll motifs. The fire screen is mounted on a tapered, sturdy cylindrical centre post. The screen front is glazed, revealing beadwork, which is mounted on a softwood backing covered on the reverse with cotton upholstery material and held in place by nails. The beadwork is predominately blue, green, brown depicting a floral design surrounded by a knot motif. The central post ends in a scroll motif on the feet that matches the scroll design above and below the fires screen. The central post also has a reverse tulip carving slightly above the tops of the feet. Narrative
Source's remarks Mrs. Smith to Mary Burnett: We acquired the house (7 Ambrose St.) and furnishings by tender from the estate of E. T. Higgs. Mrs. Higgs, nee Anne Irving, used to buy things at auctions, so I asked her cousin, Judge (ret'd) Tweedy if he remembered where she got it, but he didn't know.
