Francis Bain's keen interest in the natural world started as a boy. He would go on to become an authority in many areas of PEI's natural and geological history, including shells, rocks and fossils. Bain made significant contributions to the Island's natural historical record, including his book, Natural History of Prince Edward Island. The geological specimens on display are a small sample from Bain's collection.
Bain had a solid reputation among his peers, making him the local contact for other Canadian and International scientists. It's not surprising to discover that Bain was honoured by John Dawson William when one of Bain's fossil plant discoveries was given his name - the Tylodendron baini.
