DescriptionAn infant gas mask. Dome shaped steel frame with extension at center back. Rubber lined except at front. Rectangular convex glass window with brown leather frame which snaps over steel frame. Snaps are brass. Columnar "accordian-like" attachment to left of window is rubber and leather. Canvas tapes sewn near bottom of rubber where string could be drawn through. Brown, metal is grey, glass is clear.
Narrative
Gas masks were issued in 1938 to all British citizens including infants during the Second World War. This mask could be used for children up to two years of age. An asbestos filter on the side of the masks filtered out the poison and a hand pump was used to put air into the mask.
