Narrative

The Glengarry bonnet is a traditional Scottish hat made of milled woollen fabric with a pom-pom, or "toorie" on the crown and grosgrain ribbons at the back. It is thought to have been adopted by Alexander Ranaldson MacDonnell of Glengarry for the military regiment, the Glengarry Fencibles in the 1790s.

In the 1850s it became part of the Scottish Regiment's uniform. It is commonly worn by pipers in the army.

This particular cap was worn by male member(s) of Stewart family when in Scottish dress.
