Founded by William Tuplin circa 1864, the Margate Carriage Shop and Forge consisted of a construction, painting, show room and forge area. The shop was passed down through a series of apprentices starting with William Pound in 1867, Frank Marks in 1905, Elton Sharpe in 1947, and Edward Andrews in 1967. The shop continued to produce sleighs but stopped producing carriages in its later years of operation.
