DescriptionRectangular bottom woven gathering basket with straight sides and a wooden “D” shaped handle. Brown in colour.Warp is wider (approx. 1.5cm) than weft (approx. 0.6cm); checker woven pattern is created from the 1 over, 1 under method; decoration has three layers – bottom is checker, central is decorative weave known as “jikiji’j” (periwinkle), top is checker; “D” shaped handle has notched ends inserted into the weaving; inner rim is bound to basket with strip of wooden splint.
